Next I began a short-term assignment to provide
management support to our Operations department. While leading a
team of high-performing employees, I was also responsible for
learning more about Operations and proposing process improvements
that would directly impact the business and the client. Although I
was nervous about this new role, it gave me an opportunity to
further develop my ability to embrace and drive for change.
After the assignment in Operations, I
successfully applied for the ING International Graduate Program
(IIGP). The intent of this program was to help build ING corporate
citizens and build networks between young career professionals
throughout the Group. The three-week intensive program was held in
the Netherlands and I learned more about the global business of ING
and was exposed to senior business leaders who taught us how to
create shared vision and strategy.
Upon my return from the IIGP, I accepted a
short-term assignment in Human Resources as a Learning and
Development consultant and rolled out a company-wide succession
planning initiative.
Most recently, I accepted the position of
Business Analyst for the President’s Office. Directly reporting
into the CEO has allowed me to apply the numerous skills and
institutional knowledge that I have acquired during my tenure with
the organization. Most importantly, it has given me a greater
understanding of strategic management for a financial services
company.
I understand that my career path is not
typical, and I am fortunate that the company has supported my
development in this manner. I am a strong believer that employees
are responsible for their own development which should not be
limited to training courses. For me, development is expedited when
you spend time with high performing colleagues and building
relationships where the exchange of knowledge and skills are
continually fostered. This is what makes ING so special to me.
