ING awarded for its Management Traineeship programme
Following its participation in the “Best Traineeship Benelux 2014” contest, ING Belgium was declared best-in-class in two categories: personal branding and balanced project.
The election of the Best Traineeship Benelux is a yearly competition, in which corporate traineeship programmes are assessed on a number of criteria. In particular, the jury bases its assessment on a questionnaire, an interview and a programme presentation pitch.
ING in the running for an award
In the first round of the contest, the ING trainees were asked to complete an online questionnaire. This first step proved successful and ING reached the second selection round. The latter consisted of an interview with the jury, followed by a 5-minute pitch presenting our Management Traineeship programme to the other selected participants. The ING Belgium delegation consisted of management trainees, a senior recruiter and a talent manager, who made the pitch and answered the jury’s questions.
Ultimately, ING Belgium was awarded two “best-in-class” prizes out of five: personal branding and balanced project.
Personal Branding: great trainee visibility within the bank
The jury welcomed the importance and visibility of our traineeship within our organisation and the strong support of the top Management vis-à-vis the Management Trainees. In addition, the involvement of individual trainees in strategic projects was highly appreciated, enabling the trainees to steadily build a personal network at management level.
Balanced Project: a broader view of the bank’s segments and activities
The jury valued the three 12 to 18-month cycles of the traineeship, involving the trainees’ participation in several projects within various departments. This great variety was deemed to offer trainees a clear picture of the diverse career opportunities within the organisation. An additional assignment of the programme taking place in a foreign country was also considered a significant advantage compared to other traineeships, on top of being a pleasant experience.
These awards were warmly welcomed by ING Belgium, as they reflect the bank’s tremendous investment in preparing its next generation of top managers. Participating in the contest was also considered a motivating and enriching experience by ING trainees and HR professionals.
