TECH020 - ING - Blockchain - IT Class 2017 and more..
Over 250 enthusiastic IT students joined TECH020 in Amsterdam last Thursday 16 February. TECH020 brings together the community of programmers, developers, gamers, nerds, hackers, scientist, students, start-ups, and other fans of Internet and technology in the Amsterdam area.
Knowledge sharing is key at TECH020. This event is a great way to learn a lot in a very short time, but also to meet new people and network. At this TECH event students from VU, UvA, HvA and Inholland University got the opportunity to share their knowledge, highlight their skills and meet future employees or company!
This awesome festival was inspired by keynote speaker Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon. ING was here as well to speak about Blockchain and to inform graduates about the IT Class 2017.
“ING has a very interesting tech environment for IT students”, Global IT Recruiter Rob van Elburg explains. 'That’s why we are main sponsor of this event and hosted the chillzone. We informed the students about one of the most interesting developments in fintech.....blockchain!’
The blockchain parallel session was packed. Over 100 students were there. IT manager & IT Class founder Peter Penning talked about how Blockchain paradigm shift can be: ‘our current centralized systems have their shortcomings, i.e. single-points of failure & reconciliation. Blockchain can resolve those shortcomings.’ Pure innovation what can be learned in the IT Class.
ING’s Cees van Wijk continued: “Ethereum is a multi-purpose platform, a global distributed computer that leverages the unique Blockchain characteristics and adds smart contracts on top, so you can build any use case that requires trust, immutability and transparency.” Lots of questions were asked and answered at the session, but also at ING’s chill zone.
This zone was hosted by former IT Class members Ioanna Tziouvara & Arturo Tudela. “Definitely an event worth-attending providing an insider’s view on the industry’s technical challenges and solutions, but at the same time refreshing and interactive with numerous networking opportunities for all the participating parties” Ioanna says. "I was recruited via an event", Arturo explains. "So it’s great to inform current students about ING and the IT Class".
The ING IT Startersclass programme gives talented IT graduates the necessary grounding to become top IT specialists. This Startersclass has been specially developed for recent graduates with a technical master’s degree or PhD who have set their sights on reaching the top of the IT profession. Starters with the right amount of drive and talent are given the opportunity to continue studying for a year while working at the same time. During the Startersclass programme, you’ll not only learn a huge amount about your own IT domain, but also about the world of banking and finance, which is a world with its own specific challenges. There is a strong focus on your professional and personal development in the form of education, training and coaching.
In parallel, you’ll gain extensive work experience by doing several rotations within different teams on very varied projects. At the end of the one-year IT Startersclass programme, you can expect to be offered a permanent role within ING.
