In essence, the Global Procurement team is responsible for purchasing and entering into contracts with suppliers of ING and is the owner of the procurement policies, controls and system platforms to be used by the local procurement and business functions.

Global Procurement ensures the acquisition of the ‘right goods and services’ at the right time, place, and best conditions’ in a sustainable manner. To be able to deliver this promise in the best way possible, the Global Procurement team has recently been re-designed.

Job Overview

Within the Global Procurement organization, contract management starts after the contract has been executed. The Contract Manager manages the whole lifecycle of the contract until renewal, change requests and termination. Once the “ink-on-paper” is done, the Contract Manager then proactively manage the utility of the contracts. The Contract Manager also partners with the business in approaching the suppliers concerning  contract performance (i.e. the utilization of the supplier and contract compliance).

The Contract Manager will manage and support the most important international contracts for ING. In this role you will be the subject matter expert on contracts and will be required to understand the contract agreements, business requirements and execute to minimize risk to the business.

Key Responsibilities

Specifically, you will be responsible for activities related to contract management. This includes:

  • After the contract signature, proactively takes care of the lifecycle of the contract – monitors spend and runs reports that give a global view of the contract status. Ensures contract governance during entire life cycle of the contract and contract compliance.
  • Ensures data quality in iBuyS2C is accurate and maintained in a timely manner.
  • Keeps overview of all international deals, including the spend related to the contracts broken down per country.
  • You are the go-to person during the lifecycle of the contract. You build a community with regards to specific contracts and you are in regular contact about the contract (including levering knowledge and make improvements in contract management, share and scale best practice across countries).
  • Manage strategic supplier/vendor meetings, utilizing scorecards, spend data and category strategies as important input.
  • Discuss problems with internal stakeholders to make recommendations and find solutions for operational issues, risks and manage escalations.
  • Manage, develop and process amendments to contract conditions.
  • Before the contract comes to an end, the Contract Manager should address the expiry well in advance and identify opportunities from the contact (i.e. maximize the utilization and performance of the deal), link with Sourcing colleagues that consequently, trigger new internal sourcing activities.


During the contract management process, you are the first point of contact for the business and suppliers. You are a sparring partner for the business, advising customers as well as decision makers, on how to make contract management as efficient and effective as possible. You work independently on high-risk and complex tasks. You have in-depth knowledge of and plenty of experience with contract management processes, and of market intelligence and analysis techniques. You are considered a source of reference for the various contract management activities by fellow employees. You monitor environmental factors and make sure that all stakeholders are on the same page. You are proficient in Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). You are a star communicator at all levels of the organization.

Masters degree desirable. At least 10 years of Procurement experience, including at least 5 years of experience in contract management.
