Your role & work environment

You are an energetic DevEngineer with a passion for IT and a positive can-do mindset. You are a teamplayer working as a core member of a multidisciplinary and cross-functionalsquad whom primary driver is the customer perspective. Close collaboration withinand across the squads and with the consumer is of utmost importance for you.

You have a broad and diverseset of competencies that allow you to design, develop, test and deliverapplications and/or infrastructure services in the scope of your squad. Whennecessary, you will also contribute to applications maintenance, administeringthem and eventually decommissioning them.

As a Dev Engineer, you contribute toaccomplishing the squad's mission. You do this by working on the customerjourney from the backlog, using the Agile method end-to-end. You continuouslystrive to improve yourself and your colleagues.

You will jointhe chapter “Database Engineering” in the IT Area “Contributing”, located inBrussels (Etterbeek)

Your key responsibilities

As a Dev Engineer, you control both thedesign phase and the actual development and testing of applications /infrastructure services. You understand the entire stack, so that you can bringapplications or infrastructure services into production and resolve incidentsin cooperation with the Ops Engineer. This means you can contribute tocompletion of all activities in the backlog. The following items are vital inthis: 

As a Dev Engineer, you control both thedesign phase and the actual development and testing of applications /infrastructure services. Contribute to the new way of working

  • You work together withcolleagues from other areas of expertise and take initiative in expandingknowledge (both within and outside of your area of expertise) that is relevantfor the Tribe in which you work.
  • You use your technicalexpertise and experience to contribute to all sprint events (planning, refinements,retrospectives, demos).
  • Where possible, you take ontasks/activities that contribute to the mission, even when they are notentirely within your area of expertise.


  • You have an up-to-date visionregarding IT expertise and you also have functional knowledge of some BankingBusiness domains.
  • You are able to get all typicaland other backlog items (user stories) from 'to do' to 'done'.
  • You consult with the team aboutwhat is needed to fulfil the functional and non-functional requirements of theIT product to be developed.
  • You design, build and test ITproducts (functional, performance, resilience and security tests) in line withthe customer’s requirements and IT Area’ set of guidelines 
  • You implement all mandatorysecurity standards to ensure IT risk is and remain under control
  • You perform Life CycleManagement (including decommissioning) for IT products under management.
  • You apply continuous deliverypractices: 
  • Manage all resources inversion-controlled repositories (incl., code, scripts, configurations,artefacts, static resources)
  • Refactor and reuse existingcode/modules/functionality
  • Write fully automated tests(e.g., unit-, functional-, non-functional- and integration testing)
  • Build, enhance and maintaintooling and scripts to automate repetitive or error prone tasks
  • Develop micro services and APIs 

Contribute to team and personal development

  • You contribute to thedevelopment of your squad by actively giving and receiving feedback.
  • As an experienced Dev Engineer,you coach less experienced colleagues to help their individual development.
  • You are responsible fordeveloping your own expertise. 
  • You gather, update and spreadknowledge about developments and challenges regarding your  field and embed lessons learned and bestpractices.

Experience and specialized knowledge

  • Experience working in Agileorganisation and good understanding of Agile/DevOps practices andmethodologies  (Agile/Scrum, Scaling,Continuous Delivery, automated testing).
  • Ability to master severalengineering skills : 
  • Designing and design forfailure
  • Coding and/or packageintegration 
  • Testing including Test-DrivenDevelopment (TDD), end-to-end testing and Test automation e.g. regression, functional andintegration tests
  • Continuous integration anddelivery (Compile, Build, Package, Deploy)
  • Security & IT Risk
  • Networking and storage
  • Performing Stack Life Cycle
  • Applied machine learning
  • Database & Middleware
  • Track record of developing highquality software products and infrastructure stacks
  • Expertise in multipleprogramming / scripting languages and automation tooling
  • Broad understanding oftechnologies, banking business domains and consumer needs
  • Experienced knowledge in thefollowing domains:
    • Operating systems: Unix basedplatforms(AIX , Linux), Windows
    • Oracle database/RDBMS 12c ,Oracle database/RDBMS 18c and multi-tenancy
    • Oracle Automatic storagemanagement (ASM), Grid Infrastructure
    • Oracle Data guard
    • Knowledge of Golden gate is anasset
    • Oracle Real application cluster(RAC)
    • Oracle Recover manager (RMAN)
    • Proficient at coding using (Shell& SQL) , knowledge of GIT(Lab)
    • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)Cloud Control 13c.
    • Experience with Oracle Exadata& ZDLRA
    • Experience in multiple databasemigration scenarios
    • Security concepts (databasesecurity, authentication, certificates management, PKI)
    • Knowledge & workingexperience on Microsoft SQL server is considered an asset
    • Familiarity on Identity &User access management using Role based access control 

Education and Professional certifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degreeor equivalent by experience
  • Good written and spokenknowledge of English
  • Certifications and/or provenproficiency in software development and infra stack building
  • Certifications and/or provenproficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages
