Our Corporate Development team of ING Group Strategy & Innovation (GS&I) is looking for a Business Analyst who facilitates for Management Board Banking (MBB) the quarterly Strategic Dialogue (SD) process and provides MBB with outside-in views based on competitor analysis. This position offers a unique corporate strategic overview on the various (future) bank activities as well as exposure to the most senior management of the bank, and the potential to move into new roles within the bank after proven track record.

The team

GS&I reports directly to the CEO of ING. Within GS&I three teams work closely together to define for ING its position and focus, to generate business impact, and to capture new opportunities to become the European Universal Banking leader. GS&I acts as strategy and innovation advisor for MBB and senior business and functional management. GS&I consists of approximately 40 professionals across a management team, project leaders, consultants, and analysts.

The exposure to a wide range of topics, lines of business and top management, makes GS&I an ideal breeding ground for future leadership roles and personal development. Consequently, we have an excellent track record in both core strategic projects as well as in placement of alumni in senior positions across the bank.

Role & Responsibilities

As our new Business Analyst you will focus on developing insights on how ING is making progress on its Making the Difference strategy. A cornerstone of the role is facilitating the quarterly SD with MBB in which Business Units and Global functions present progress updates and challenges of their strategic and financial plans and performance. Your goal is to provide for a smooth and impactful SD process, allowing the MBB to make well-informed decisions, via, amongst others, agenda setting and process facilitation.

  • You will plan and orchestrate SDs according to overall annual MBB and Supervisory Board (SB) meeting agenda.
  • You timely run the agenda setting process for SDs and support this process for the permanent education sessions of the SB, for MBB Retreats and Management Councils.
  • You actively liaise with Business and Group Function PTAs and their Business Managers.
  • You cooperate actively with Corporate Affairs and Chief of Staff.
  • For each SD meeting, you set up and lead 2 prep and one feedback meeting.

Related to the SDs is your other main role: to provide for outside-in views based on competitor analysis. Your goal is to establish an ‘outside-in’ culture to make the difference and stay ahead of competition. Your areas of responsibility include:

  • You provide SB/MBB, GS&I and other departments with competitor insights and guidance about the relevance for ING. More specific, you provide the MBB on an annual basis with 12 country outside-in views for the SDs in March, May, September and November. This in close cooperation with the countries.
  • You provide performance overviews of relevant banks (e.g. US Banks) on a quarterly basis.
  • You will be seen as the go-to-person for (latest) competitor information based on an overall view on market and competitor trends and developments.
  • You develop and proactively share ‘so whats for ING’ of these insights with GS&I team and a broader audience of other stakeholders.

How to succeed

  • You hold a master’s degree in a relevant field of expertise.
  • You have 3-4 years of relevant business and/or strategy experience with a focus on banking, finance, business control and/or strategy consulting.
  • You are a flexible, curious, broad oriented person, able to deal with ambiguity and to adapt quickly to changing circumstances or requirements.
  • You are open and prepared to work on ad hoc requests from a.o. MBB.
  • Excellent analytical skills (i.e. being able to quickly analyze, summarize, conclude and advise).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written (i.e. condensed e-mails) and verbally.
  • Strong "business sense" combined with the ability to develop insights and drive to action.
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Affinity with financial analysis, able to understand bank’s financial statements.
  • On top of developments in the financial landscape, such as Fintech and neobanks.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Able to build up and utilize a relevant network within ING and actively bring people together across head office and business units.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
