ING Corporate Audit Services (CAS) is hiring an ESG Audit Manager to review and assess the control environment for the ESG related risks and sustainable business, doing thematic audits and supporting other audit teams across the world.
Roles and Responsibilities
As ESG Audit Manager you will be challenging and assessing the control environment for the existing risk management framework and controls on sustainable businesses across ING locations, climate risk management, non-financial reporting, and the implementation of existing and new ESG related regulations globally in ING. You will report your audit findings, including suggestions for improvement and concrete recommendations, and present them to senior management. Additionally, you will monitor sustainability related business activities and new developments in this area occurring in ING, as well spread your ESG knowledge internally across CAS and externally with other peers.
Your counterparts in the ING organization are working in the global sustainability team, sustainable finance, ESG risk, etc. You will challenge them towards developing industry best practice and adherence to the existing ESG regulations and strategic ambitions.
The Team
As ESG Audit Manager you are part of an international ESG audit team, a dedicated team of 4 ESG specialists within CAS. This team is part of the CAS Audit Division Risk & Finance. CAS is a highly professional organization with approximately 20 audit teams across the globe and comprises a diverse international team of around 450 members.
Together with your CAS colleagues, you will have worldwide coverage on ESG related audits. International audits are performed usually as a joint effort between local representatives and central specialists. Working at CAS you will be operating at the very heart of the ING organization. This also means that your work will be visible to regulators, external accountants and executive management.

A successful candidate should have good analytical skills, strong understanding of ESG risks, especially environmental and climate related risks, and the ability to challenge the business and make an impact on the bank’s operations.
Good communication and presentation skills are strong requirements. The candidate should have a pro-active attitude and a creative mindset. You are accurate and describe yourself as a team player who is very capable of working in international teams, as well as independently when the task at hand requires.
Furthermore you:
- Have a university degree (MSc or PhD) in environmental related sciences, engineering, or business administration or other relevant area. A postgraduate degree or industry recognized certifications in ESG / Sustainability is a plus.
- Have at least 10 years of relevant work experience within an accountancy or consulting firm or a financial institution, with proven track record in internal audit or risk management roles, and expertise in some Sustainability fields, like: Climate Change (e.g., carbon emissions, climate risks), reporting (sustainability reporting, assurance of non-financial information, etc.), ESG risks, Socially Responsible Investment (SRI), Sustainable finance, ESG regulations (EU taxonomy, SFDR,CSRD etc.), or Diversity.
- Have managed teams, either directly or indirectly, and can influence and support a team.
- Are passionate about sustainability and the impact that financial institutions can make for a better world.
- Are fluent in English (fluency in other languages is appreciated).
- Are organizationally sensitive and effective in conflict management.
- Have proven communication, convincing and advisory skills with the ability to work at all levels in the organization.
- Are persuasive; being able to ‘get people on board’ and ensure necessary buy-in from stakeholders.
