We are looking for you, if you:
- Are an experienced Senior/Lead DevOps Engineer who is ready to lead technical solutions for complex problems,
- Have 3+ years of experience with automation scripting (especially using Ansible/Ansible Tower) and system administration, particularly with Red Hat Linux (RHEL).
- Can easily spot manual patterns and tasks and identify candidates for automation, continuously driving efficiency across the platform.
- Embrace the DevOps mindset – owning your work from development through to deployment, and ensuring systems are operational and optimized post-launch.
- Are passionate about designing and automating large-scale infrastructure solutions, with a deep knowledge of technologies like Tomcat, NGINX, Apache.
- Have hands-on experience managing and optimizing VM-based environments and want to influence the migration towards containerized and cloud-native solutions.
- Enjoy working on complex infrastructure problems and developing scalable, future-proof systems with self-healing and self-optimization capabilities.
You’ll get extra points for:
- Demonstrating strong expertise in relational databases (e.g., Oracle) and distributed cloud storage (AWS S3, GFS).
- Being well-versed in Agile/Scrum methodologies and practices.
- Having experience with Pega or other JVM-based applications.
- Implementing robust monitoring and alerting systems with solutions such as ELK, Grafana, and Prometheus.
Your responsibilities:
- Design, develop and implement technical solutions together with a team of DevOps engineers, helping wider team grow and excel in their technical and operational responsibilities.
- Introduce continuous improvement processes for platform team services through automation using Ansible Tower, driving scalable and resilient infrastructure services.
- Identify repetitive manual tasks and patterns, automating these processes to enhance operational efficiency.
- Promote and introduce self-service capabilities for internal platform users, enabling teams to leverage infrastructure services seamlessly through APIs and web portals.
- Build and deliver CI/CD pipelines, automation, and tooling to ensure smooth and rapid deployment of features and services.
- Drive self-healing, self-optimizing solutions to improve platform resilience and scalability.
- Manage and optimize a VM-based environment, driving future container and cloud solutions.
- Handle operational responsibilities like regular patching, incident/service management and compliance while ensuring robust, scalable, and future-ready solutions.
- Champion the you build it, you run it, you fix it culture, owning the end-to-end lifecycle of the services you develop.
About the Role:
Are you a DevOps Engineer ready to take on a significant challenge? At ING, we're building an internal Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform team, focused on delivering a robust VM stack based on our internal on-prem cloud offering. Our tech stack is based on components such as RHEL, Oracle DBaaS, Tomcat and delivers PEGA application as a service with supporting sidecar Java applications. As the technical lead in this team, you will have the unique opportunity to design, shape, and build this cloud-like infrastructure, while driving automation and self-service capabilities for our internal platform users.
This role offers unique challenge of building scalable automation, by looking for manual patterns read for optimization, and promoting self-service for users across our platform. You will part of cross functional DevOps squad responsible for introducing innovations like self-healing systems, exposing internal services via APIs, and delivering these solutions via internal web portals. We're looking for someone who embraces the DevOps mindset – you build it, you run it, and you fix it.

This isn’t just another DevOps role. You’ll be directly involved in building a cloud-like offering inside one of ING’s core teams, providing critical infrastructure for our internal and external applications across the organization. The role naming convention in the global ING job architecture will be “Engineer IV".
