Diversity & inclusion at ING

At ING, we promote diversity not just because it is the right thing to do. We promote diversity because we can’t deliver on our strategy without it.

Our mission is to ‘empower people to stay a step ahead financially in life and in business’ – not only our customers, but also our employees. To stay a step ahead we need teams with a healthy mix of contrasting perspectives and backgrounds that reflect the diverse communities that we serve. And when people feel included and free to be themselves at work, they perform better.

At ING, we value inclusion and we encourage you to bring your whole self at work. We want everyone working at ING to feel included and accepted for who they are, whatever their background or belief – Everyone is welcome at ING. This is the focus of our diversity and inclusion approach.

In line with this, we offer a unique benefits package. For example:

  • We are the first employer to give new parents six week’s paid leave plus the option of taking three month’s unpaid leave immediately after that. Because we want to enable employees to make a good start to family life.
  • We give 1.5 days of paid leave a year as ‘diversity days’ which you can use to celebrate those (religious or non-religious) occasions that are important to you, such as Carnival, Eid al Fitr, a Pride event or anything else.
  • If you are 60 or older, you have the opportunity to spend one day a week sharing your knowledge and know-how at community-based organisations or educational institutions.
  • At ING employee networks play an important role: these networks bring together like-minded people within ING who want to make a difference. They ensure that everyone feels at home with us. Meet our seven diversity networks in the Netherlands: Rainbow LionsEnable, BEING, Experience, Lioness, Crossing and RING.

As an employer, we have an important role when it comes to corporate social responsibility. Good employership is an important theme here. For example, we encourage the sustainable employability of our people, we help them to monitor the balance between their work and private life and we promote diversity among employees. ING wants to be a reflection of society, based on people's talents.

We’re strongly committed to creating an inclusive environment where our LGBTQI+ colleagues can progress and develop their careers without fear of discrimination.

In these videos, colleagues bring different perspectives to what it's like to be themselves and the challenges that can come with that.
