The Finance Track of the ING International Talent Programme prepares you for a role that is of vital importance to our company. Our Finance team represents a strategic partner for our management team. Your activity will involve analysing the past and forecasting the future. Also, we count on you to provide the advice that enables us to take the right decisions for sustainable success.

Get to know Finance
Finance is for people who love dealing with numbers and are passionate about simplifying complex figures. The advice we give is essential to keep our company on course. As such, Finance at ING Bank is involved with all our businesses worldwide and our input affects decisions at all levels. Confidentiality is important as our work involves sensitive data. By the end of the Finance Track you will be fully equipped to take the next step in your career towards being a high-value specialist or Finance Manager. It’s your decision and your mentor will be there to guide you.
Starting with a challenging orientation phase of 6 to 12 months, you’ll be assigned to significant projects as you learn how to support management teams with the right information at the right time. You will then move on to your first position with ING Bank.
First step in the journey – rotation within the local finance team and your first assignment.
You will get to know the how the local finance team is organized and how it works. Together with your talent manager and a finance partner you will choose a concrete assignment with specified deliverables for which to take responsibility. You will be part of a team within the finance department and will get support as well as be involved in the team’s tasks.
The teams you could join within the Finance Department are: Finance Business Partnering – responsible for financial oversight, financial analysis and advice; Strategy and Governance – responsible for data management, control framework and change management; Reporting and Control – responsible for accounting, reconciliation and standard reporting; Procurement; Tax.
Assignments you could assume:
- internal monthly reporting to Head of Retail Business on financial KPI evolution;
- internal monthly reporting on peer evolution and market performance;
- prepare input for product profitability models;
- financial analysis on product and non-product segments;
- help with analysis of cost allocation;
- help with budget forecasting and budget allocation.
The unique journey as a trainee offers you the chance to get great exposure to various subjects and numerous mentors and colleagues within the finance department as well as test your skill in a fast-paced environment.
Your first position
After gaining a complete overview of our Finance area you could take up a position in one of the departments presented above. For example, being part of the Finance Business Partnering team will involve providing senior management with key strategic information. In order to do so, you will require a strong understanding of finance techniques and the ability to optimise business economics management. Also, it will be your job to analyse the potential of a new product and the overall costs.
Your second assignment
Together with your mentor and talent manager you will find an international assignment in one of ING’s offices all over the world. This project can take up to 6 months period. You should make sure that the chosen assignment will help you develop your competencies and deepen your knowledge.
Global events & Trainings
You will be part of an international network of trainees and the Global events will be the perfect change to connect with your peers and strengthen your friendships. These events are amazing learning opportunities: you will address both your finance skills and your personal areas of development.
The trainings and courses will be focused on finance specific development need (for example, CFA, ACCA), alongside data, risk, technology and leadership skills.
