ING Australia is looking for an experienced “Wholesale Banking Architect” to join our Tech Strategy and architecture team for this newly created position based in Sydney. It is a senior position working closely with the Head of Architecture and other senior stakeholders to develop, communicate and maintain the wholesale banking technology strategy.

In this role you’ll be working closely with the Wholesale banking and Finance leadership team to identify and leverage strategic architecture requirements and opportunities to define as-is and to-be architecture and roadmap.

To be successful in the role, you’ll need a strong understanding of the financial services industry, with specific focus on wholesale banking including, lending solutions, sustainable finance, corporate investments, capital structure and advisory, mergers and acquisitions, equity capital markets and debt capital markets as well as other domains such as Finance.


What you’ll do..

  • End-to-end solution design (Cloud, Hybrid) involving Trade Finance, Treasury and Finance including Front end & Core banking integrations.
  • Define the architecture for major projects and changes to the as is landscape, guiding project and service teams in implementing the defined architecture.
  • Manage the life cycle of solutions, undertaking technology watch and developing proofs of concept for wholesale banking platforms and systems.
  • Vendor assessments, evaluation, and RFP.
  • Work closely with Global counterparts on current (As-is) and defining target (TO-Be) state architecture.

What we’re looking for..

  • Excellent domain knowledge and expertise across wholesale banking systems, processes and architecture and strategy development.
  • Ability to translate the requirements across the three pillars of process, people and technology and support the Target Operating Model as Finance foresees it.
  • Experience in creating roadmaps (with timelines, e.g., logical sequence of steps) to get the change initiative in a progressive manner to the target.
  • Good technical background and technical architecture knowledge : API, micro-services, BPM, Messaging, Middleware, Application servers, Databases systems, Operating Systems, Virtualization, Cloud (private, public, hybrid).
  • Experience managing small Architecture teams with minimum 5 years in wholesale banking architecture position. Preferably banking or financial services.
