Where dreams of home ownership come true

Tell us what you do and who your customers are.

As financial advisors, we talk directly with customers about mortgage loans at ING. Our customers are people who want advice on financing a new home and they contact us by phone or online inquiry.

Can you explain a little about your day-to-day work as financial advisors?

We advise current and potential customers on mortgage loans and other products, starting from our initial talk to the conclusion of a contract, all according to their needs. We mostly do this on the phone or by screen sharing. We also work on projects to further develop and promote innovation in direct sales. For example, we analyze the market situation on the basis of our discussions with customers. Our aim is to improve and optimize sales processes.

Is it possible to offer mortgage loans without local branch offices?

It works wonderfully, because we can offer our customers a high degree of transparency and proximity when advising them by phone or screen sharing.

What do you enjoy most about your job – what makes it special?

We get to make our customers’ dreams of home ownership come true. For most people, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime occasion – and no two mortgage loans are the same. We think outside the box in our project work and special assignments. We also call upon contacts in other departments when relevant. We exchange information on current topics across departments to create an understanding for each other’s needs and strengthen our sense of community.

How personal is the contact between you and your customers?

We’re well trained for personal contact. After all, it’s different if I’m sitting across from the customer at a desk, or talking with them on the phone like we do as a direct bank. It’s important that we can listen well and actively, and that we understand the customer’s questions and concerns, who are often taking out a mortgage for the first time. It’s the only way we can develop a personal relationship. And we’ve been quite successful at it. In 2021, we were awarded the “Fairest Mortgage Lender” seal of approval for the eleventh time in succession (“Fairster Baufinanzierer” in FOCUS-MONEY, issue 44/2021). The property owners surveyed gave us the top rating of “very good” in the categories of fair product offering, fair price/performance ratio, fair communication and fair customer service.

What kind of person do you have to be for this job and how can someone get started?

To do this job, you need to be willing to take things into your own hands and play an active role in shaping them. You need strong communication skills, the ability to think outside the box and the ambition to successfully guide customers through the mortgage loan process. Applicants should have bank training or comparable qualifications in the field of insurance and financial services. If you work for us, you also need to be flexible and assertive. We’re looking for people who have a good feeling for our customers’ needs, but are also attuned to our interests as a financial institution. And, of course, they should want to be part of a successful team!

In short, if you’re open to new ways of thinking, enjoy working as part of a team, but are also independent and like to develop new things and drive them forward, you’ll quickly feel at home with us.
