We started out in 2015 as ING’s software development hub – a distinct entity from ING Bank Romania – then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies.

Formerly known as ING Tech, as of 2022 we provide borderless services with bank-wide capabilities under the name of ING Hubs Romania and operate from two locations: Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.

With the help of over 1600 engineers, risk, and operations professionals, we offer 130 services in tech, non-financial risk & compliance, audit and retail operations to 24 ING units worldwide.

The Mission

Data Analytics Platform’s aim is to leverage analytics for ING, providing a multi-tenant hybrid platform, combining cutting-edge technologies on both private cloud/on-prem and GCP. Working in a Big-data environment, together with data governance and security, is to be sure that we're building scalable solutions.

We seek an enthusiastic Chapter Lead with a passion for data, technologies, and people!

Your passion is to work with the latest and greatest technologies that make working with large amounts of data easy, you’re pro-active in keeping yourself up to date and are always searching for new ways to discover new technologies. You also enjoy laying the architectural foundations for the things you’re working on. You combine both thinking of the future and a hands on, right now attitude. You will work in a team with highly skilled people and enjoy a creative atmosphere where trying things out is encouraged.

Your Day-to-Day:

 People 40%

  • Participate in the recruitment of new talents
  • Provide continuous coaching and mentoring by clarifying job responsibilities, setting performance expectations through the establishment of goals and job competencies, identifying skill gaps, creating development plans and evaluating performance
  • People management of highly talented data engineers
  • Balance effectively independence and acting in the interest of the team
  • Collaborate closely with data analysts, data scientists and business colleagues across the organization

Data Engineering 60%

  • Knowledge of data manipulation and transformation, e.g. SQL
  • Hands-on experience building complex data pipelines e.g. ETL
  • Hands-on experience managing and further developing distributed systems and clusters for both batch as well as streaming data (S3/Spark and/or Kafka/Flink)
  • Programming in scripting languages, e.g. Python (70%)
  • Programming in a statically typed language, e.g. Scala (30%)
  • Experience in setting up both SQL as well as noSQL databases
  • Deployment and provisioning automation tools e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, CI/CD
  • Bash scripting and Linux systems administration
  • Security, authentication and authorisation (LDAP / Kerberos / PAM)
  • Affinity with Advanced Analytics, Data Science
  • Other programming languages: scripting (Ruby, Groovy) or statically typed languages (Java, C++, Go)

We work in a hybrid mode and occasional travelling to Amsterdam will be required.

What you bring to the team:

Experience: You have at least 6 years of (global) work experience in the Data Engineering space (methods, technology, data)

Tech stack/ knowledge:

  • Execution: Docker / Kubernetes / Openshift
  • Processing: Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Airflow
  • Storage: Ceph (S3), Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, Apache Cassandra (and other noSQL DBs), Apache Avro, Apache Parquet
  • Programming: Python, Scala
  • Data Security and Lineage: Apache Atlas,Apache Ranger
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to be able to align with various stakeholders on various levels
  • Up to date with the latest industry standards and trends in the area of analytics
  • Understanding of Agile – Scrum methodology is considered a plus

Foreign languages: English (advanced)

Education: BSC degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Management
