About the position:

The Financial Institutions team is looking for a dynamic individual to join the team that covers bank and non-bank financial institutions. Financial institutions have a global reach with a wide range of product needs. The role of the Junior Coverage Banker / Relationship Manager is pivotal to the establishment, development, and enhancement of the relationships that we manage across the ING Network.

In this role you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the exciting and constantly evolving landscape of commercial banking to Financial Institutions, working with clients including Banks, Asset Managers and the funds they manage, Financial Sponsors, and Insurance Companies. In doing so you will have the opportunity to learn their businesses and help them understand how to get the most out of ING’s products and services, which range from lending to financial markets, capital markets, and transaction services across the globe.

About the department:

Financial Institutions manages ING's relationships on a global basis with our most important financial institution clients. We are a true multi-product coverage unit, fully aligned with our product, risk management and network colleagues.  Our focus is to provide pro-active, solutions driven origination to our clients and to deliver excellent execution across the full range of transaction banking and high value-added products.  The role is within the Americas Financial Institutions team where we focus on delivering ING’s services and products to banks and non-bank FIs located in the US and Canada.

The team’s primary goals include the origination of deal opportunities, execution support, extraction of cross-buy, facilitating capital velocity, and defending ING’s share of wallet, as well as promoting a recurring business dialogue to build long-term relationships with each client. Key to this is not only discerning each client’s investment profile, but also having a data-driven understanding of the exposure and product interaction from each of ING’s global teams.

Responsibilities :

Origination/Client Relationship Management:

  • Develop a sound understanding of FI’s strategy and support the senior relationship managers in executing ING’s client coverage model for each relationship.
  • Prepare pitches, briefing memos for client meetings, marketing materials for client meetings, and annual client relationship plans.
  • Assist in the origination for products from all relevant ING business lines including Financial Markets (e.g. repo, fixed income trading, FX), Lending (i.e. across infrastructure, energy, renewables & power, fund finance, etc.), Capital Markets & Advisory, and Transaction Services (i.e. cash management and trade).
  • Identify and drive cross-buy and capital velocity opportunities from product and client conversations.
  • Prepare credit applications, modifications, and reviews, as well as commercial green light memos.  Assist in KYC data gathering and due diligence.

Research & Analysis:

  • Provide client data, peer analysis, and background information to facilitate business development.
  • Assist the coverage banker in identifying critical business issues and potential business/cross-sell opportunities.
  • Stay well-informed on industry trends and the position of competitors in all geographies where ING has a wholesale banking presence.
  • Liaise with other product specialists and departments throughout ING, including risk management, syndications, loan operations, financial markets, portfolio management and KYC.

Data Management and Teamwork:

  • Support non-financial risk initiatives such as KYC onboarding and client account monitoring.
  • Maintain and monitoring data quality and to keep the required internal systems up to date.
  • Report on client profitability and account condition.
  • Pro-actively engage with ING teams across the globe to understand local client initiatives and learn from the respective products.

Qualifications and Competencies:

Qualification/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or closely related field is preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant banking experience.
  • Financial institutions background and / or financial markets preferred.
  • Credit training, sales and KYC experience are a plus.

Personal Competencies:

  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Able to work proficiently in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative manner in support of team objectives.
  • Self-starter and willing to work in a deal-oriented and deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional demeanor.
  • Critical thinking and willingness to challenge the status quo.

Base Salary Range: $130K-$150K
