HR traineeship

Working on HR innovations

The financial sector has undergone a period of considerable upheaval over recent years. The environment in which we operate is changing dramatically and the pace of development is fast – in the area of digitalisation, for example. At ING we want to stay at the forefront of the market, and to help our customers and employees stay ahead too. That goal demands rapid innovation, not only in terms of products and services but also in terms of the way we work and how we support our people in their own development. As an HR trainee you can be part of that innovation process.

Our Global International Talent Program for HR is open to energetic people who have a desire to play an important role as HR Business Partner in the realization of our people vision – to build the craftsmanship and engagement of everyone at ING, to deliver on the purpose and strategy of the Bank.

“The HR track of the International Talent Program will help you grow and develop into a fully strategic HR Business Partner over the course of 4 years. In this role you’ll shape the people and business agenda and build a performance culture at ING”

Make a real difference as a trainee

As an ING trainee you can and should make a real difference. We’re depending on you to take the initiative. We expect you to be enterprising and eager to learn, that you seek out opportunities for collaboration in order to achieve optimal results, and that you develop and share your own vision. But above all, we expect you to deliver results.

Responsibility from day one

As a trainee, you’ll be fully involved in the business from day one and you’re expected to quickly get to grips with the complex material. This is your opportunity to demonstrate how your analytical skills, customer focus, leadership capability and persuasiveness can help us to optimise our HR services. Whatever your assignment may be, we hand you plenty of responsibility right from the start.

The first 18 months: 2 rotations in Belgium, 1 abroad

We advise you to start in our People Services team where you will contribute to build a differentiating employee experience through accessibility and speed of delivery of people processes. After 6 months you can move to our People Analytics team where you will help ING use sophisticated analytical techniques to turn HR and people data into useful insights to improve ING's performance.

More than just data, analytics is also about identifying patterns that will improve our understanding of human behaviour. It opens up new possibilities for how we serve our customers and is set to transform the way we inspire, engage and build the capabilities of our people.

In your 2nd rotation and your 3rd rotation we recommend that you gain experience in our CoE Talent & Learning, where we create inclusive solutions that attract, develop and grow talent, to build the craftsmanship and engagement of everyone at ING and in our CoE Performance & Reward with the goal to empower the business with Performance & Reward solutions and expertise that drive business results.

One of your 2 rotations will be abroad. Many of our trainees choose to go Amsterdam where ING headquarter is and where you can put the knowledge you gained during your two first rotations to good use.

Your first 'real' job: continuing to grow

In your first ‘real’ job, which lasts approximately two years, you’ll enhance your knowledge and hone your skills. You’ll continue to grow and develop and take on a HRBP role of a small account.
