Your development

Your development

"Learning about yourself begins during the selection process: you’re confronted with certain aspects that you’ll need to improve."

Focus on your growth

Your development is at the very heart of your ING traineeship. ING invests just as much time and effort in it as you do. During the two-year traineeship programme there is a strong focus on your growth from several perspectives:

  • Personal: we help you to improve your personal effectiveness, such as time management, presentation skills, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Professional: you learn the basics of our core business of banking, enhance your knowledge of the financial services sector and develop your skills in areas such as preparing business models and taking part in pitches.
  • Organisational: you gain insights into the business and an understanding of the competitive landscape and ING’s strategic priorities.
  • Relational: you learn the importance of building a strong network that reaches across all of ING’s locations and beyond. We help you become an ambassador for ING and our values.

    Professional development

A successful career at ING starts with an understanding of the basis of our company: banking. Since we believe it’s important that all of our trainees are familiar with our core business, you’ll learn about banking and financial services during your traineeship. You will gain some of this knowledge on the job during your daily activities within your function or rotation. During the two Global trainee events you’ll also learn a lot about ING and how the bank is being run.

Personal development: general and specific training

Leadership is the second pillar of the ING traineeship. We invest a lot of time and effort in developing your leadership skills. You receive intensive coaching from your manager and your talent manager. You can also be appointed a senior manager as your mentor. All ING trainees participate in our global learning events. There, you learn about every aspect of core banking, such as the role of a bank, the bank balance sheet, bank funding, Tech processes and risk management. Needless to say, these events also help you to develop your soft skills such as how to deal with business partners, stakeholder management and presentation techniques. Each traineeship track also has its own specialised training courses. You can find out what they are under your chosen track: Retail BankingWholesale BankingFinanceRiskTech, Operations & Change, Analytics, Business Banking or HR.

    TraineeNetwork

The TraineeNetwork organizes events for trainees and former trainees who want to look beyond the boundaries of their own track and department. You don't become a member of anything: you decide for each event whether you find it interesting. As a trainee you are added to the mailing list, so you will automatically receive invitations in your mailbox.
