Make an impact as a trainee

Allow your talent to flourish. Discover everything about your traineeship. ING offers promising master graduates the chance to make the absolute most of their talent on a traineeship within the bank: the International Talent Programme (ITP).

Are you considering a traineeship? ING offers you to discover all the ins and outs of the banking world. Our traineeship is a two-year programme. It starts with three rotations, of which you can even do one abroad, if circumstances allow. After these three rotations you start in your permanent role.

The traineeship offers a lot of flexibility. What does this mean? You’ll start within your traineeship track (e.g. Retail Banking, Risk, Finance, Analytics etc.). One of your three rotations can be done in a different track, to give you the opportunity to experience and make impact on our clients, products or processes from a different angle.

We also offer flexibility in our trainings. During your traineeship you'll attend two Global Trainee events, and you'll do three training courses to strenghten your professional skills. One of these is specific and mandatory for your track, the other two training courses are to be choosen by you and match your own learning goals.

You are in charge of shaping your own career. But you don’t have to do it alone. You start in a class of trainees, who stay with you for the rest of the programme. You will become part of an international ‘year group’ of over 100 trainees – a fantastic network from which you will reap the benefits for the rest of your life. In addition, you are appointed a personal HR trainee manager who will help you shape your development and future career. Lastly, right from the start you’ll have a trainee buddy and later on in the traineeship you’ll be appointed an external coach.

We create an environment that allows you to discover, and develop, your own potential. We provide you with all the facilities you need to get the best out of yourself. You’re given the opportunity to spend some time working abroad. You’re guaranteed to learn a lot and discover a lot – about your specialist area, the bank, our financial services and the future of banking, but also and above all about yourself. Because the ING traineeship revolves about your development. The floor is yours.

Make a real difference as a trainee

With having a permanent contract, you’ll be eligible for the following attractive employment conditions In addition to job security, we offer you many other benefits: a focus on your personal development, for instance. The chance to learn a lot, to grow both personally and professionally, to work abroad and to build a large – international – network. On the ING traineeship, you’ll lay a solid foundation for your future career. You will be in the driving seat of your own career and make your own decisions. We will play a facilitating role where necessary and help you to steer in the right direction.

During the two-year traineeship, you’ll be based in at least three different teams; three rotations (of six months) in different teams and afterwards you’ll start in your permanent role. To ensure that you gain a thorough understanding of our core business, you will follow training courses related to banking and financial services. You will also participate in two Global events together with other ING trainees from around the world. That’s where you will meet the other members of your year group: more than 100 international trainees who have started at ING in the same year as you, from all across the globe – an inspiring experience. You will learn a lot about ING’s strategy, products and the challenges. Moreover, you will immerse yourself in the products, services and markets that are relevant for your work. Also, we offer you Virtual Trainee Days. They’ll take place 2 times per year, with the goal of learning about ING and working on your personal development. Right from day one, your traineeship is all about learning, developing and performing, but it’s also a lot of fun.

Your first rotation: dive into our business

During your first year you’ll do two project of six months each. We will help you to find your first project, taking into account how we got to know you during the selection procedure as well as your own personal preferences and, of course, ING’s requirements. During your first or second rotation you’ll also attend your first Global Trainee event: a week where all trainees of your ‘year group’ come together in Amsterdam (if circumstances allow) to learn, network and develop yourself.

Your second rotation: will you opt to go abroad?

Halfway through the first six months of your traineeship, it’s up to you to start arranging your second project. Now it’s a matter of making use of your network and your own initiative! Utilise your contacts with other departments and colleagues who might be able to help you. Many trainees choose to go abroad for their second rotation, and ING offers you  opportunities to do so, if circumstances allow. Working internationally provides you with a wealth of valuable experience, both personally and professionally.

Your third rotation: indepth knowledge or gain experience in another traineeship track?

You’re still in charge, your third rotation is arranged by you. Your HR trainee manager will help you in the decision making; will this last rotation be done to deepen knowledge of your business (within your track), do you decide to do this rotation within a different track? Imagine: as an Operations & Change or Retail Banking trainee you can get Analytics experience, or as a Risk trainee you can get a better understanding of our Wholesale Banking business.

Your first job: learning while working

After your three rotations, it’s time for your permanent role. You will remain part of the ITP. You’ll develop your key competencies and acquire valuable experience. And you’ll deliver tangible results: your work will make a real difference at ING.
